Okay, well maybe not a million. Today Jane Trumper became the first woman to run across the Simpson Desert in Australia. That is 660 kilometres over 10 days of searing heat and potentially dangerous desert creatures. The mother of three attempted this trek last year, but was halted 350 kilometres in by bush fires. This time around, muddy ground from heavy rains caused her to take a huge detour, increasing her total distance covered to 750 kilometres. Due to the mud and extreme heat (it was 113 degrees on her first day!), Jane worried that she would be unable to complete her mission. But some serious perseverance and dedication pulled her through so she could become the very first woman to run this route. Afterwards, she claimed to feel fantastic! Besides a few blisters and tight calves, Jane was extremely happy with her condition. Best of all, the money donated to her will be given to an Australian children's hospital charity.
There are so many political snafus happening constantly these days, and women are almost always taking a step or two back. I think it's important to acknowledge one woman's tremendous accomplishments amidst all these other stories that get so much attention. Don't get me wrong, we need the attention to educate people on the serious issues as best we can. But every once in a while, we need to take a moment to say "Wow. Jane Trumper, you are AMAZING!"
