Meet the Women's Center: Laura and Ashley

Name: Laura Hahn
Position: Library Coordinator
Major: Communications: Journalism
Minor: Political Science
Year: Senior

In honor of our upcoming Ice Cream Social we asked all of the staffers to let us know their favorite ice cream flavor, Laura’s is Cookies and Cream. The Ice Cream Social also happens to be the upcoming event that Laura is most excited for because we get to meet so many awesome new people!

One random fact about Laura is that she loves pandas. Her favorite youtube video is "You okay, you okay, you fine, you fine," also known as Jessica Meets Vanessa and assures her she's fine.

Major: Law & Society Minor: Psychology
Year: Sophomore

Ashley also loves Cookies and Cream ice cream, just like Laura! Ashley also enjoys coffee flavor as well as cake batter.

Ashley is most excited for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, because of all the time that she has spent brainstorming and planning out events that she is interested in doing.

Two fun facts about Ashley that you might not know: she is half-Italian and she’s a licensed cosmetologist!

Our Services

Resource Collection

The Women's Center offers a library collection of extensive material concerning Women's Studies and multicultural literature, including books, reports, fact sheets, articles, videos and a variety of pamphlets. We can provide individualized assistance on research projects. Books are available for a two-week check out period.

Crisis Intervention Counseling

The Women's Center provides confidential counseling for anyone in need of assistance with a crisis, problem, or issue. The staff members are available to listen and discuss any concerns you may have. We are here to identify options and provide any information or referrals you may need.

Safer Sex Supplies

The Women's Center sells safer sex supplies to promote responsible intimacy. We sell assorted condoms for 10¢, lubricant packets for 10¢, and dental dams for 25¢ each! The condoms and dental dams are available in a variety of flavors including strawberry, banana, mint and vanilla.

Advocacy

The Women’s Center Coordinator serves as an advocate for all students, faculty, and staff in regard to discrimination, harassment, assault, or violence. The Coordinator provides confidential assistance and supports all individuals in filing a complaint or utilizing the college judicial/grievance system.

Educational Programs

The Women's Center organizes workshops and hosts speakers to enrich your college experience. We sponsor educational campaigns on a variety of issues such as body image, relationship violence, and more. We also offer assistance to RAs and all student clubs and organizations in designing programs, and sponsor special events for Women Studies minors. Let us know what programs you would like to see, or better yet, let us help you plan one!

Queer Peer Services Coordinator

The Queer Peer Services Coordinator is a staff member who provides peer counseling and advocacy for students who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transsexual as well as students who may be questioning and/or struggling with their sexual identity. Other services include a resource collection on LGBT issues and educational programs on sexual identity.

Men's Outreach Coordinator

The Men's Outreach Coordinator (MOC) works with men on campus about issues such as sexual assault and violence prevention, the meaning of masculinity, healthy relationships, gender stereotypes, and media images through group and individual settings.

Club Meeting Place

There are many clubs and organizations that meet in the Women’s Center, including Ramapo Pride (a Gay/Straight Alliance), Feminists United, Ramapo Students Against the War, Catholic Women at Ramapo, and the Body Image Support Group. Come in to find out this semester’s meeting days and times!
