Men Who Trust Women

A great new Tumblr has been created as a response to the large amount of anti-choice and anti-woman politics that have been dominating the nation. Legislation like the transvaginal ultrasound bill that was introduced in Virginia, among others, demonstrates a clear lack of respect for and trust in women. The selection of representatives chosen to speak about the recent contraception initiative put forth by President Obama really speaks volumes about how the current climate views women's rights and opinions.

Not. One. Single. Woman. How can a hearing be held on women's health and not even have one woman be on the panel? The answer is that women are not given respect and trust in the increasingly polarized and extreme environment that our country's political figures have created. Women's rights are being rolled back dangerously - a regression that will benefit no woman and hurt all. These pointless and harmful bills that are distracting from the serious issues the country is facing do nothing to protect women and only serve to keep them from having agency and power in our society. Men need to stand up and make it clear that they trust women to know what is best for their own bodies; the more we stay silent, the more we let people who do not have women's best interests at heart speak for us.

As Men's Outreach Coordinator, I encourage men everywhere but especially men at Ramapo to stand up and recognize that we need to respect women's health and choices and understand that in the end only they can make the decisions that are best for them. The sooner men make it clear that they are not going to be represented by people who do not trust women the sooner we can move past these petty squabbles and address the real problems we have - after all, women using contraception or needing abortions did not cripple the economy, irresponsible decisions made by business executives and politicians did.

If you know of a man or are a man who trusts women, submit your story here!
