Advocate for an equitable environment free from violence and harassment based on gender, race, and sexual orientation.
Create an anti-racist, non-sexist, queer-affirmative space where all people can feel valued and safe.

What I've Learned as a Women's Center Staffer Thus Far

As my first semester as a Women's Center staffer comes to a close (can you believe it?!), I've been taking some time to think about what I've learned and taken away from the position. Joining the Women's Center as a program coordinator has been an amazing experience. I've met fabulous new people and learned a lot about myself and others along the way. Here are just a few of those valuable lessons:

Time management is one of the most important and useful skills to have, especially as a student. Balancing a full class schedule, an internship, and this job hasn't always been easy but it has always been worth it. Learning to utilize every hour of the day has been difficult, but I'm getting there.

Never be afraid to ask questions. The Women's Center advocates for and programs around a variety of different issues, some of which I'm not familiar with. Learning about all these issues has been one of the most interesting and informative part of being a Women's Center employee!

Coffee is essential. Enough said.

Coworkers are more than just coworkers; they become your best friends and support system for when you need to complain, vent, or just be angry about something! No matter what's going on in my life (personal or professional), my coworkers have always been there to help me in any way they possibly can.

Last but not least, it's okay if every once in a while when you're having a really stressful day to just fall asleep on the couch during your shift... I mean hey, that's a form of self care, right?
