Prop 8 Ruled Unconstitutional!

Today, by a slim margin of 2-1, a federal court in California ruled Prop 8, a ban on same-sex marriage in that state, as unconstitutional. This is just the first step, as the case will now have to move on to the Supreme Court. However, I see it as one giant step in the right direction.

Judge Stephen Reinhardt wrote, "Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples."

Unfortunately, same-sex couples are still unable to marry despite the ruling. Stay posted as the case travels all the way to the Supreme Court!
