Think Before You PINK!

The Women's Center along with many organizations on campus have come together to bring you our 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Aareness Campaign "Think Before You PINK! "

As we celebrate all causes of October including Queer History Month,Violence Awareness Week, Disability Awareness Month and of course Breast Cancer it seems that Breast Cancer gets the most recognition and is more widely celebrated in October. You might be wondering why this is. One of the major reasons is that Breast Cancer Awareness has become a commercialized advertisement for companies to gain profits and donate a slim portion to actually go to foundations. It has been constantly utilized by breast cancer organizations to collect proceeds for research but yet Breast Cancer is still an epidemic in primarily women but men as well. What are we doing to actually bring a change to this cause? Early detection is great and raising awareness is just as important but there is something bigger than us that truly have power and one of the answers is Breast Cancer Action.Breast Cancer Action states, "After three decades of “awareness” campaigns and billions of dollars raised, breast cancer remains a public health crisis of epidemic proportions... your support is CRUCIAL. It is time to demand that our elected officials take bold, meaningful action for breast cancer prevention and better breast cancer treatments through independent research and strong regulation, "This ties in well with the candidacy and the future outcome of health concerns for all women. VOTING is essential in any candidacy but especially in this upcoming one. Change can only occur if you get out and make it happen.

BC Action primary interest is to go beyond the notion of a cure and emphasize more on stopping the diagnosis. They intend to Advocate for more effective and less toxic breast cancer treatments by shifting the
balance of power in the Food and Drug Administration’s drug approval process away from the pharmaceutical industry and toward the public interest. They also work to decrease involuntary environmental exposures that put people at risk for breast cancer. They create awareness that it is not just genes, but social injustices political, economic, and racial inequities — that lead to disparities in breast cancer outcomes.  To find out more visit
