Meet the Women's Center: Michelle and Janelle

Name: Michelle Cresci
Position: Office Manager
Major: Nursing
Year: Senior

Michelle's favorite Ice Cream flavor is Chocolate with Reese's Cups.

She is most looking forward to is Dan Choi, who is coming to Friend's Hall tomorrow to talk about social justice! Cue shameless plug...

Choi is a former US Army infantry officer who served in combat in the Iraq war during 2006-2007. He became an LGBT rights activist following his coming out on The Rachel Maddow Show in March 2009 and has been publicly challenging America's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy, which forbids LGBT service members from serving openly. Tickets are now being sold at Roadrunner Central with a $5 deposit which will be given back to at the door. Hurry! Tickets are going fast!

Getting back to the interview... One fun fact about Michelle is that she loves to sing/play guitar, but finds it extremely difficult to perform in front of others.

Position: Program Coordinator
Major: Psychology
Year: Junior

Janelle's favorite ice cream flavor is strawberry cheesecake ice cream, preferably from Dairy Queen.

She is excited for all the upcoming events, since it's her first semester at Ramapo! Janelle thinks that is is going to be fun and interesting to see and experience all the fabulous events we have planned.

One fun fact about Janelle is that she loves to pop bubble wrap or balloons to de-stress herself!

Her favorite Youtube video is Jessica's "Daily Affirmation."

Our Services

Resource Collection

The Women's Center offers a library collection of extensive material concerning Women's Studies and multicultural literature, including books, reports, fact sheets, articles, videos and a variety of pamphlets. We can provide individualized assistance on research projects. Books are available for a two-week check out period.

Crisis Intervention Counseling

The Women's Center provides confidential counseling for anyone in need of assistance with a crisis, problem, or issue. The staff members are available to listen and discuss any concerns you may have. We are here to identify options and provide any information or referrals you may need.

Safer Sex Supplies

The Women's Center sells safer sex supplies to promote responsible intimacy. We sell assorted condoms for 10¢, lubricant packets for 10¢, and dental dams for 25¢ each! The condoms and dental dams are available in a variety of flavors including strawberry, banana, mint and vanilla.

Advocacy

The Women’s Center Coordinator serves as an advocate for all students, faculty, and staff in regard to discrimination, harassment, assault, or violence. The Coordinator provides confidential assistance and supports all individuals in filing a complaint or utilizing the college judicial/grievance system.

Educational Programs

The Women's Center organizes workshops and hosts speakers to enrich your college experience. We sponsor educational campaigns on a variety of issues such as body image, relationship violence, and more. We also offer assistance to RAs and all student clubs and organizations in designing programs, and sponsor special events for Women Studies minors. Let us know what programs you would like to see, or better yet, let us help you plan one!

Queer Peer Services Coordinator

The Queer Peer Services Coordinator is a staff member who provides peer counseling and advocacy for students who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transsexual as well as students who may be questioning and/or struggling with their sexual identity. Other services include a resource collection on LGBT issues and educational programs on sexual identity.

Men's Outreach Coordinator

The Men's Outreach Coordinator (MOC) works with men on campus about issues such as sexual assault and violence prevention, the meaning of masculinity, healthy relationships, gender stereotypes, and media images through group and individual settings.

Club Meeting Place

There are many clubs and organizations that meet in the Women’s Center, including Ramapo Pride (a Gay/Straight Alliance), Feminists United, Ramapo Students Against the War, Catholic Women at Ramapo, and the Body Image Support Group. Come in to find out this semester’s meeting days and times!
